The
Volunteer Centre Reigate & Banstead
The
Volunteer Centre Reigate & Banstead is part of a national
network in place locally to support their community. These can
vary throughout the country in size depending on capacity and their
community needs
In
Surrey there are 15 Volunteer Centres all are incorporated in the
infrastructure charity known as 'Council of Voluntary Service
or Voluntary Action'. We work closely sharing information,
opportunities and good practice.
Historically,
the network has been under resourced. We were simply a place where
people could go for information and advice about volunteering
opportunities in their area and be referred to an organisation of
their choice.
As
volunteers underpin our community and in order to recognise their
value over recent years we have formed partnerships at local, county
and national levels. As a result there is now a national
branding for Volunteer Centres and a national volunteering database
providing the facility to place our local opportunities on the do-it
web site. This has enabled us to raise the profile of
volunteering as well as offering a more comprehensive service to
individuals and organisations needing volunteers.
We
are members of the national body Volunteering England and as part of
our development achieved full quality accreditation around the six
core functions of a Volunteer Centre, these are:
Brokerage
A
primary function is to match both individuals and groups interested
in volunteering with appropriate opportunities in the local
community. We hold information on a comprehensive range of
opportunities and offer potential volunteers an informal confidential
interview to identify and match their motivation to volunteer with
appropriate volunteering opportunities.
Marketing
Volunteering
The
Volunteer Centre stimulates and encourages local interest in
volunteering and community activity. This may include promoting
and marketing volunteering through local, regional and national
events and campaigns. Being accredited to Volunteering England,
we manage and promote a national brand of volunteering.
Good
Practice
Development
The
Volunteer Centre promotes good practice in working with volunteers
to all volunteer involving organisations. We can help with
training and accreditation for potential volunteers, volunteers,
volunteer managers and the volunteering infrastructure.
Development
Volunteering Opportunities
The
Volunteer Centre works in close partnership with statutory,
voluntary and private sector agencies as well as community and faith
groups to develop local volunteering opportunities. We
understand the potential offered by the local communities and work
with them to realise this potential. We will support groups
which face barriers to volunteering.
Policy
Response
and Campaigning
The
Volunteer Centre identifies national and local issues that have an
impact on local volunteering policy.
Strategic
Development
of Volunteering
As
the local expert on volunteering, the Volunteer Centre informs
strategic thinking and planning at a regional and national level.
