WEA Adult Learning - Microsoft Publisher. Freelance Performance Arts Tutors Required - Bloomin'Arts is a organisation that works with and for adults with learning disabilities in the Performing Arts . We are looking for Arts tutors to join the team and work with us to develop Arts projects and productions Creative Discipline: Tutors needed for drama, dance, Art or Music classes with adults with learning disabilities in East Surrey.  Location: Redhill and Lingfield area.  Job details: The classes run from October to July over a thirty week period.  Content is up to you but an understanding and sensitivity for the ethos of Bloomin'Arts is essential. The perception of Surrey is one of affluence but look a bit closer and there are a number of areas of deprivation. In the Redhill area, Merstham is perhaps the most visible and a lot of attention has been paid to addressing the problems there. Another, less well known area is the Preston ward, located between Tadworth and Tattenham Corner. One initiative taking place there is the creation of a Good Neighbours Scheme and our sister organisation, Reigate & Banstead Voluntary Service is organising a coffee morning to discuss this scheme. The Sunnybank Trust is an Epsom based charity providing friendship, support and advocacy to some of the 300 men and women with a learning disability who live in and around the Greater Epsom area. This charity is expanding rapidly and is now seeking to appoint a Chief Executive. This position provides an opportunity for someone with energy and commitment to make a real difference to the lives of this group of vulnerable and isolated adults. We are seeking a highly motivated person with the skills to direct the activities of The Trust and promote its development and wider recognition as a provider of support and advocacy for people with a learning disability. Surrey Domestic Abuse Awareness Week - Monday 10th to Friday 14th October 2011.  Next week marks Surrey Domestic Abuse Awareness Week, this is a chance to come together and raise awareness about the prevalence and impact of domestic abuse within our community.  Throughout DA Awareness Week ESDAS (East Surrey Domestic Abuse Services) will be working with the local borough and districts, Surrey Police, Reigate & Banstead Women's Aid, Children's Services, local faith groups and many others to encourage people to seek help if they are experiencing abuse within their homes or relationships.  If you would like to join them at any of their events throughout the week or would like publicity and display materials please contact Leigh on 01737 771350 or leigh@esdas.org.uk

Redhill Youth Club Opens!  22 young people attended the first session with more expected.  Redhill Youth Club runs on Fridays from 7pm-9.30pm at the Youth Association Building behind Liquid Envy.  Young people who are secondary school age (years 7+) are invited to use the facility to hang out with their mates.  They have pool, table tennis, xbox, wii, board games plus the use of the kitchen to make tea and toast.  They will be running a launch event on the 27th October from 1pm alongside the weekly youth sessions.  They are also still looking for Voluntary Youth Workers to join their staff team.  Anyone interested please contact us at the Volunteer Centre.

CSV Make a Difference Day - 29 October 2011.  This autumn make sure you get involved in Make a Difference Day, the UK's biggest day of volunteering!  Last year more than 70,000 volunteers were involved in over 2,000 activities, ranging from renovating homeless shelters to creating community gardens, teaching IT skills or helping housebound neighbours. This year's campaign will focus on activities that combat loneliness and isolation in society. Organising an event is a great way to raise the profile of what you do and encourage first-time volunteers to get involved. Free resources to help and inspire organisers and participants include a Handbook packed with tips and advice, How-to Guides, t-shirts, certificates and more!  The day takes place on 29 October, with activities between 22 October and 6 November. Furnistore East Surrey.  Throughout August, Furnistore is having an IT amnesty.  You can bring in your old PCs, monitors, printers and other accessories (routers, scanners etc.) for wiping and refurbishment by one of their sister SRN members who will then find it a new home.  There are some restrictions, they cannont take Apple Macs and the PC or laptop must be capable of supporting Windows XP as a miniumum.  All printers must contain some toner or ink and they ask that each printer is supplied with a test page.  Please visit their website www.furnistore.co.uk for further information.


Surrey Youth Focus' 2 day free training course - 'Working with young people - the basics' The course has 9 modules, which include the following - Role as a worker, the principles and values of being a youth worker, the development stages of young people and how these can change their behaviours/attitudes, development of self, how to communicate effectively, safeguarding, CAF, Health & Safety, and working with young people. Alzheimer's Society Memory Walk in Godstone.  Come and support the local services of the Alzheimer's Society by joining in their sponsored Memory Walk on Sunday 18th September at Godstone Green.  Walk commences at 11.30am.  There will also be a BBQ, a beer tent from the Hogsback Brewerey, face painting, tombola & games stalls and some magnificent Harley's to look at or even have you photo taken on one of them!  The award winning Elvis tribute act, aka Paul Ritchie, will be performing on the green after the walkers return.  For more information and to register for free please visit: www.memorywalk.org.uk


Gatton Park  - 'Go Green at Gatton' Country Fair‘ is happening on Sunday 3rd July from 1 - 5pm, this is a great day out for all the family!  Their will be country crafts, demonstrations, children's activities, and the gardens and grounds will be open. Cost:  Adults £4.50, children free.  We will also be their promoting volunteering, so come along and meet us!


The Redhill Youth Consortium are made up of representatives from Raven Housing Trust, Surrey Police, Hyde Housing, Surrey Youth Focus, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, Redhill & Reigate YMCA and other voluntary youth organisations, who work together to identify young peoples’ needs and fill these gaps.  Natasha Scully, who is the Youth Inclusion Co-ordinator at Raven Housing is new in post and is looking for Voluntary Youth Workers for a new youth club we believe will be opening in September 2011 in central Redhill on Friday evenings 7-10pm.  To support this new project volunteers will be needed from 6.30-10.30pm, fortnightly (this may increase or decrease in frequency depending of level of interest).  The main tasks for this role will be engaging in face to face youth work, initiate, develop and maintain positive relationships with young people, to plan and facilitate project activities for young people in partnership with the Youth Forum and to safeguard young people’s welfare.  Volunteers must be 18+. Application deadlines are imminent, however expressions of interest will be accepted throughout the year.


Priory Park Community Festival Saturday 25th June 2011. Organised by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council in partnership with local community group the 'Reigate Events Collective', the event promises to be a free, fun-packed day out for people of all ages featuring: community, craft and information stalls; fun activities for children; traditional fairground rides; conservation activities; a youth zone; live music and a variety of food and drink stalls. This event has free entry, but certain stalls and activities will be charged for. Like last year, the Festival will incorporate Armed Forces Day, which honours our Forces past, present and future. Local TA Units, Veterans and Cadet Corps will entertain the crowds with a range of activities and demonstrations. Reigate & Redhill Live at Home Scheme has obtained funding from  Surrey County Council to deliver 12 free workshops titled “Its all about you”. The Volunteer Centre along with police, fire services, social care team, shopmobility, help shops and others have been invited to be Guest Speakers on various dates throughout 2011/12 (starting in the near future).   These workshops are an opportunity for the general public to access more information about these services.  A press release and flyers will be distributed shortly by the organisation.


Volunteers Week is here! This is an annual event between the 1st to 7th June which celebrates the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK.  The week plays a huge part in raising the profile of these volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.  To highlight this contribution organisations hold events and activities to recognise their volunteers and the volunteering that they do.  If you  decide to hold an event/celebration please let us know, we would be happy to promote this for you.  This initiative is supported by Volunteering England, a website is now live: www.volunteersweek.org.uk. The Gatton Trust have a few places left on their course 'Grow your own Wildflower Meadow' which is on Saturday 21st May.  This is a day of activities and practical sessions for families or adults on how to establish your own wildflower meadow.  In the morning adults will learn about different types of meadows for different soils and children will enjoy activities with their education team.  In the afternoon you will all create a meadow by plug planting.  Bring your own picnic lunch.  Course starts from 10am-3pm, Cost: Children £5 Adults £10.  To book your place email: education@gatton-park.org.uk


East Surrey Domestic Abuse Services (ESDAS) - is now recruiting for a Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker,  £18,724  30 hours per week, 12 month fixed-term contract.  This post is subject to Section 7(2)(e) of the Sex Discrimination Act (Women Only).  Their premises are in Redhill but you will also work away from the office.  You will join an innovative, highly motivated, professional team and will be required to work directly with individual clients and liase with other agencies and organisations such as the police, housing, health, social care and legal services. It is essential that you have an ability to listen, to communicate empathetically, are non-judgemental and aware of the importance of confidentiality. Experience and/or training in relation to the needs of our client group is essential to the role. Training and induction will be provided and they actively encourage the continuous personal development of all their staff. The Autism All Stars is a local charity set up to raise awareness of the different manifestations of autism and to offer support and encouragement to all those affected by it.  They will be holding a CRAFT FAIR at the Warwick School in Noke Drive, Redhill on Saturday 2nd April from 10am-4pm.  If you would like to donate something or better still run a stall, with some or all of your profits going to The All Star's they would love to hear from you.  For more information please visit their website:

Send Family Link is a registered charity providing support and services for families visiting women in custody at HMP Send, with a particular focus on children with a mother in prison.  They are holding an open morning on Saturday 2nd April from 10-11.30am at the visit centre.  This will give potential volunteers an opportunity to see where they are and what they do.  Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.  If you would like to attend please contact Volunteer Centre Reigate & Banstead.

Bletchingley Skills Centre - The Centre provides training opportunities for disabled people to gain work related and other skills to improve quality of life.  They are looking for a person to job share in a person Friday role.  The ideal candidate will be able to drive, provide secretarial and other general support to enable the Centre to run effectively. Do something different in 2011-Volunteering on the waterways!  Waterway Recovery Group (WRG) has launched its new programme of unique weeklong residential volunteering opportunities, known as 'Canal Camps' designed to restore the derelict canals of England and Wales to their former glory.  Canal Camps give you the chance to do your bit for the environment whilst having a fun holiday. Surrey Independent Visitor Service is a service recruiting volunteers who visits, befriends and advises children in care who are looked after by Surrey County Council and live in foster care or residential homes.  They ask for a commitment of two years to visit a child once per month.  The volunteer will work with a child or young person, usually aged between 10 and 17, who do not have regular contact with a family member.  Children come from all cultures and backgrounds.  They are holding an Open Evening on Tuesday 12th October 2010 at Omnibus Building in Reigate from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.  For more information please get in touch with us at the Volunteer Centre.

SURREY WILDLIFE TRUST are looking for volunteers for their Surrey Greenspace Project in Furzefield Wood, Merstham.  As the nesting season is now over and they are officially into their winter works season they will be back in the woods wielding bowsaws and loppers to thin out more of the woodland and open it up into the meadow. Work will include small tree felling, path clearance and general tidying up.  If you fancy a few hours of fun, outdoor, healthy work and would like to help improve your local greenspace, come along on Saturday 18th September between 10am-2pm (or any hours you can spare).  Please wear sturdy footwear and old clothes. Bring a packed lunch if you are staying for the day; the all important hot drinks and biscuits will be provided! Merstham Neighbours are local volunteers offering assistance to residents in the Merstham (RH1 3 postcode) area, who may need a little extra help. 1st February 2010  New Access to Volunteering Fund

New grants helping organisations to enable more disabled people to volunteer are available from November 16.

Organisations can apply for grants between £250 and £5,000, which can be used to help overcome barriers that stop disabled people volunteering, such as a lack of specific equipment, suitable access and/or understanding of disability issues.

These grants are part of the £2 million Access to Volunteering Fund, which was developed by the Office of the Third Sector in the Cabinet Office as a pilot scheme in Greater London, the West Midlands and the North West.


2012 Olympics - Your Chance to Get Involved.

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games will require 70,000 volunteers and the Personal Best Programme aims to prepare people for this challenge by offering training and volunteer opportunities in the lead up to 2012.

Locally, a course that gives an Event Volunteering qualification starts on Monday 11th January. In the first instance you should come to the induction session.
